Back to School…

Back to school time is approaching quickly as summer is escaping my grasp. I am always sad this time of year and the transition back to school can be full of anxiety. I find the best way to deal with this transition is to be prepared ahead of time to avoid the unnecessary anxiety.

First of all, shop early! Hopefully by now, everyone has their school supplies, school clothes and accessories already purchased. I am a firm believer is being prepared early. No crowds, not everything is picked over, and therefore no back to school shopping anxiety.

Visit the school: get paperwork and orientation taken care of early! If your child is planning on playing sports, get that sports physical done before school starts. Preferably, take care of the sports physical at the beginning of the summer and any shots that need to be updated. If it is out of the way early, you can enjoy summer and know that when school sneaks back up on you, you are already prepared.

Do a trial run of getting ready for school. Before school starts, do a trial run to make sure you have allotted enough time to get things done and get on the road. Of course, it is hard to account for traffic, but you can get a routine down that is easy for everyone. Again, this helps with anxiety the first days of school.

Make a game plan for sports and after school time. It seems like this time of year involves a lot of running. I believe in having the car prepared for all sorts of things. Extra clothes, extra snacks, first aid kit, etc… again, being organized is being prepared for the unknown. It is so much easier to have extras in your vehicle than it is to make a trip home between school events and extracurricular activities.

Don’t overschedule your child. Make sure that your child has time to be a kid. Allow for some downtime. You, as a parent, need time to decompress and so will your child.

There are many other tips out there for back to school time. Of course, what works for one may not work best for another, but I can guarantee that is you are organized before the time comes, everyone will be much happier and more successful.

Date Night Flight

Heart shape pond

My husband and I went for a date night flight. In our state, there has been a lot of flooding from high water tables. We passed pond after pond, lake after lake, and then out of the blue…we spot a heart shaped pond. What an interesting shape to come across in the middle of nowhere. It was as if we were drawn to the area to see it. Mother Nature creates such beautiful things.

Organizing a Lifetime of Photos

As I mentioned in a previous post, my mother has downsized from a house to an apartment. She has thousands upon thousands of photographs in her possession. The big question is what to do with them. You can’t just throw them out and you can’t give them back to people as many of these photos are generations old.

We currently face this dilemma and with a shortage of space to house these memories, we have been researching options. We stumbled across an article in the August 2014 edition of Real Simple Magazine. The solution seems very reasonably priced and a lot less work on our part. We are directed to send a box of her photographs or several boxes of her photographs to Scan My Photos. It only costs $99 a box for them to do the scanning and they send the photographs back in a nice and organized box in which they provide for you and in addition you receive these same photos on a DVD. We own a scanner but the time it takes for us to scan them in and save them is astronomical. Also, the photos are in such diverse sizes that we would be limited to only scan the smaller sized photos.

This seems like the ideal solution to our century old photograph collection. This might not be the solution for everyone, but I have included the pdf file of the article from the Real Simple Magazine for your consideration.  I hope you find a viable solution for organizing your photos. It is so much easier in the world of digital photography, unfortunately 90 percent of her collection was taken before the luxury of digital photography.

One of my favorite bags!  It is designed to be a camera bag, travel bag, computer bag etc… I absolutely love this bag! It is one of my favorite things. I initially used this bag as a computer bag/travel bag for work. But my initial intent was to use this as my camera bag. I love the versatility of this bag. All of the compartments can be customized to fit your needs. They Velcro in to make the pockets you need the size you need for your gear. This bag comes in a rainbow of colors. I have owned mine for over a year and it is standing up perfectly. I can’t say enough about this wonderful bag.  www.kellymoorebag.com

Big Bang Theory: Can You Admit That You Are a Little Like Sheldon Too?

(Video clip from CBS’s television series, The Big Bang Theory) The FlipFold  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kZUWkB7eZE

I am the first to admit I am a little bit like Sheldon from the tv show, The Big Bang Theory.  I also own this awesome tool called the FlipFOLD. I purchased mine from The Container Store.  http://www.containerstore.com/shop?productId=10009850&N=&Ntt=laundry+flipfold

I don’t know if you can relate but I seem to be washing the same t-shirts time and time again and never reaching the bottom of the pile in the drawers. So instead of piling the folded t-shirts in a horizontal stack, I use the FlipFOLD to fold the t-shirts tight enough and small enough to stack them vertically in the drawer.  With the FlipFOLD, I take it one step further…I fold the t-shirts in half one more time so I can fit more t-shirts in the drawers. The plus side is that I can see each and every t-shirt and organize them in a fashion where I can see exactly what t-shirt it is, then pick it out of the drawer without all of the other t-shirts falling over.

Yes, I could get rid of some t-shirts and alleviate this issue, but the FlipFOLD allows me more room to store clothes in these drawers. I highly recommend the FlipFOLD.

Busy Bee of Summer

4I have been working like a busy bee this summer trying to get my blog/website up and running. Between my day job, traveling for work, transitioning my mom out of her home to an apartment in another city . . . there hasn’t been much time left to get the Organized Bag Lady up and running, but the light at the end of the tunnel is here! I am excited to start this journey along with all of you.
